Bokrijk, never the same
Draw inspiration from the past at the Bokrijk open-air museum. As of 26 March, immerse all your senses into the rural way of life 100 years ago; how children went to school, what food was put on the table. With ‘BKRK - Bokrijk is branding’, Bokrijk is placing craftsmanship yesterday, today, and tomorrow at centre stage. In 2016 we are starting up smithing, woodwork, and breadmaking. Discover the history and modern relevance of craftsmanship and techniques in one of the historic houses. Or have a go at it yourself in the workshops, and return home with an original and handmade souvenir!
In the permanent exhibition ‘The sixties’, the lifelike decors consisting of a living room, movie theatre, hair salon, or electronics shop instantly transport you back to the turbulent 60s. Relive this swinging era through iconic record sleeves, festival recordings, and unique collection pieces at the exhibition ‘Music in the sixties’. Music writer and Belgian pop music expert Jan Delvaux shares fascinating stories from pop music history.
At Bokrijk, you not only get to experience how the past rocks ‘n rolls, your children or grandchildren can also let loose to their hearts’ content in the large and free open-air playground. Or take in the natural beauty of the 550-hectare domain with its magnificent arboretum on foot or by bicycle.
