The beguinage of Courtrai was founded in the 13th century by Johanna van Constantinopel. It is one of the most important historical sites in the inner city. The recognition as world heritage by Unesco stated that the beguinages are exceptional witnesses of a cultural tradition; a tradition that was developed throughout the middle ages in Nortth-Western-Europe by independent religious women.

The new experience centre that houses in the St-Annahall is built round the imagery of beguines as strong religious women. The visitor gets submerged in the mystical world of the beguine movement. You can experience the history of the beguinage of Kortrijk through dynamic & interactive displays & artefacts. The beguinage further consist of 40 houses and the St-Mattheuschapel.
