The For Freedom Museum succeeds in finding a stimulating and realistic way to depict the difficult period of the Second World War. Not a single inhabitant of the Zwin region and West-Zeeland Flanders escaped the repression and deprivation that occurred between 1940 and 1944. This period in our history is the main theme of the museum.

In contrast to other museums, the For Freedom Museum presents the various aspects of WW II against very real-life backdrops. The atmosphere is steeped in the occupation, persecution and liberation of the war. Visitors are submerged in the darkest days of history from 10 May 1940, the first day of the occupation, to 1 November 1944, the redemptive date of liberation in our region.

For Freedom Museum pays tribute to the Canadian, British and Polish soldiers, who during Operation Switchback succeeded in opening the river Scheldt and the port of Antwerp, which resulted in the final surrender of the enemy six months later.
