Discover the nature of Meetjesland in all its facets! Provincial domain Het Leen is a forest covering over 285 hectares straddling the border between Eeklo and Lievegem. Its more than 30 km of hiking trails make the forest easily accessible. A large section is paved, so even those with reduced mobility can enjoy a wonderful forest experience. Up for a brisk walk, or just looking to stretch your legs after a big lunch? Several mapped out walks, of varying lengths, depart from the forest information centre, including paved and unpaved paths. Looking to explore the forest with your family? Then grab a gear bag and carry out the assignments. Young ramblers can become certified forest gnomes, or discover the world through the eyes of a fairy, while slightly more mature forest adventurers can set out on scientific explorations.
Be sure to visit the arboretum. This 6-hectare tree and shrub museum introduces you to more than 8,000 plants that are sure to leaf an impression. The extensive collections of Camellia, Magnolia, Rhododendron, and Viburnum make a visit to the arboretum especially worthwhile. The platform of the 20-meter-high lookout tower offers a magnificent view of the treetops. At the foot of the tower, near the front desk of the forest information centre, the nature shop is sure to hold a nice and sustainable souvenir of your forest excursion. 285 ha of East Flemish forest fun...
